Broken Bells, Jonsi, Frightened Rabbit, MGMT and Joanna Newsom have all put out interesting music recently, but I want to call attention to The Morning Benders’ Big Echo. This band is good; they lack only more listeners. Grizzly Bear’s Chris Taylor joined them in the studio for this, with cool results. Listen to “Promises” for clear cut signs of Taylor’s influence.
I love “Excuses.” The melody’s an instant classic and the strings are awesome. They come in as a chaotic interruption before meshing with the melody right on queue for the final verse.
