A few hours ago, I landed in Los Angeles, turned on my phone, and confirmed what you already know. Sony Pictures Television is replacing me as showrunner on Community, with two seasoned fellows that I’m sure are quite nice - actually, I have it on good authority they’re quite nice, because…

Bored to pizzas
This story by Ben Yagoda on what we, as writers, can do about and with cliches inspired me to get back on Tumblr and compile a list. Yagoda calls upon George Orwell, who in his famous essay “Politics and the English Language” writes that cliches are metaphors that have lost “all evocative power and are merely used because they save people the trouble of inventing phrases for...

Christmas time is here (in the form of ironic...
People are selling “ugly Christmas sweaters” on eBay (for $25, consistently!) and marketing them as such. Looks like you’ve finally plateaued, irony. It’s all downhill from here.

Today was a fast moving day. I finished up the paper at 9:45 a.m. and immediately went to Dunn Tire to get my snow tires put on. That wasn’t fast - the wait would be about four hours - but it felt fast, thanks to the nap I took. I went home to do this.
After picking up the car at 3:30 p.m., I went straight to Carousel Mall to buy this laptop. It was a decision made sometime after I woke up...

Black Is A Stallion: Last Night I Kind of Lost My... →
It’s the late show on a Saturday night in Columbus, Ohio. I’m halfway through my set and I mention Barack Obama. Some scattered boos. Which is normal. Somebody always hates the president, no matter who that president might be. In this case, the president is Obama and I am a fan, so I always ask…
Depositstory
I sent a letter to my landlord apologizing for the state he found my apartment in, this after learning I’d only be getting half my deposit back. I didn’t do it for the money. I just felt bad because he rocked as a landlord.
I might be getting the rest of the deposit back. Today I got a message from him asking me how to spell my street name (Owahgena) because he couldn’t read my...

sms rant
Text messaging has changed the way we communicate. Duh.
But there’s a lot to be said. Without help from verbal and/or visual cues, text messages run the risk of being misinterpreted. And no one wants to be misinterpreted as a jerk, so what do we do? We put “lol” at the end of our texts. I hate “lol” when used to take the edge off. Don’t get me wrong. If you do...

I have a story to tell
Last night I drove home from Buffalo pretty late. I had been there to see Beach House perform at Town Ballroom, but needed to go straight home after; the deadline for the Skaneateles Press was 10:30 this morning. So I drove for two hours straight feeling just fine, but at a certain point (roughly Wegmans in Dewitt, only 15 minutes away from home) my eyes just wouldn’t stay open. So I looked...
Wow. The “new” Fionn Regan is almost nothing like the last. It takes an entire song for him to stop sounding like Sondre Lerche plus Ezra Koenig and start resembling his Irish self. It’s a shy resemblance — but a bolder sound. Oooo, he gets back to basics halfway through with “Violent Demeanour.” But wait! Is that pop organ I hear? Can you tell this is my first...
I think if I devoted my life to grizzly bears only to have my face “raked off” by one, I’d be less forgiving than Jim Cole. I gotta stop posting about bears.

“He sat on the lawn and looked at our chickens out there, and just sat there looking at ‘em. But he never made an attempt to break into the pen. So he was a very well-behaved bear.”

Pressure Hat
I think I have a sinus infection. There’s this great pressure surrounding my head and it keeps tricking me into thinking I’m wearing a hat. I go to take the hat off and I end up patting my head. I can’t even remember the last time I wore a hat. That’s how legit this pressure is.

A Dinner Inspired
I just got an email invitation to a “Senior Class Inspired Dinner” at Erie Dining Hall. The menus items selected as “favorites of seniors” sound pretty good, with the exception of a few that sound just awful. I might go just to try the “corn casserole and more.”
Menu Items to Include:
· French Onion Soup
· Broccoli Cheese Stuffed Chicken Breast
· Ball-tip...
This is so cool. The video for “Weekend” by The Sea and Cake was filmed in my hometown of Cazenovia in 2008. I definitely saw them filming it when I was runnng one night and thought it must’ve been for a fairly successful band. But I second guessed myself. That tree tunnel is the site of my first ever “club.” Those kids doing flips off the diving board remind me of...
That last post reminds me…
My dad is a retired high school chorus teacher, and he used to get a lot of mentally challenged kids put in his biggest chorus. Many pined to play auxillary percussion on the songs that called for it, so he gave them old shakers and maracas that would’ve otherwise been obsolete—they were empty. They didn’t ever complain. My dad’s been to a...
